Oikeutta Jyrille ja Betylle! Loppu Meksikon alkuperäiskansojen murhille!
Solidaarisuuspyöräkulkue 24.5.2011 Turussa
Kotikylästään häädetty autonominen Triqui-yhteisö kävelee Oaxacan
kaupungista Meksikon pääkaupunkiin 23.5. He vaativat oikeutta murhatuille
läheisilleen sekä viime vuonna matkalla San Juan Copalaan murhatuille
aktivisteille, turkulaiselle Jyri Jaakkolalle ja meksikolaiselle Bety
Cariñolle. Triqui-yhteisö tarvitsee yli 500 kilometrin matkallaan suojaa,
sillä jo yli 30 yhteisön jäsentä on kuollut meksikolaisten
puolisotilaallisten joukkojen hyökkäyksissä.
Haluamme pyöräkulkueella osoittaa tukemme yhteisölle, joka joutuu pelkäämään
puolisotilaallisten joukkojen hyökkäystä. Haluamme, että Turku Jyrin
kotikaupunkina sekä Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupunkina 2011 vaatii Meksikon
viranomaisia huolehtimaan siitä, että maan lakiin kirjattu
alkuperäiskansojen oikeus autonomiaan toteutuu sekä alkuperäiskansoihin
kuuluvien murhista vastuulliset saatetaan oikeuteen. Haluamme, että San
Juan Copalan ainutlaatuinen ympäristö pysyy alkuperäiskansojen hallinnassa
eikä ajaudu monikansallisten yhtiöiden käsiin. Haluamme, että
kansalaisyhteiskunnan toimijoiden väkivaltainen alistaminen Meksikossa
loppuu.
Solidaarisuuspyöräkulkue lähtee Kulma 2011 (Kristiinankatu 1) edestä
tiistaina 24.5. klo 17.00.

Call for solidarity
*Justice for Jyri and Bety!*
*End the murder of the autonomous triqui people of Mexico!*
The autonomous Triqui-community of San Juan Copala, displaced after the
violence in their home town last year, are marching from Oaxaca to Mexico
city starting on the 23d of May 2011 to get an end to the murders of their
community members. Worried that the same paramilitary groups that now occupy
their home San Juan Copala and that already have killed many of their
friends and family members, will attack also this caravan, they ask for
solidarity to prevent more violence from happening and to achieve autonomy.
Several Triqui communities connected to the traditional centre of San Juan
Copala declared themselves autonomous the 20 of January 2007. They say they
were otherwise happy with their autonomy but faced increasing violence for
it even though Mexican law guarantees autonomy to indigenous communities.
The violence started to grow faster especially since November 2009. San Juan
Copala was sieged for many months by paramilitary groups with links to the
Oaxaca state government of Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. Women had to sneak out of the
village to get food, water and other necessities. Sometimes they got
violated, raped or even murdered. The state of Oaxaca repressed the people
and community leaders and activists violently.
25 defenders of the rights of the autonomous San Juan Copala were killed
during the period from November 2009 to October 2010. Finnish solidarity
activist Jyri Jaakkola and Mexican Bety Cariño from the Cactus-organization,
were murdered 27.4.2010 in an ambush when being part of a caravan bringing
humanitarian aid to the sieged village. Since last autumn around 135
displaced Triqui women and children have participated to live in a protest
camp on the central square of Oaxaca. The area surrounding San Juan Copala
is very rich in minerals such as gold and there is a lot of forest. There is
clearly an economical interest in the area. So far, no justice has been
made. The murderers of Jyri, Bety and more than 20 Triquis are still
unpunished.
What you can do:
* write letters and emails to Mexican authorities
* organize events in Europe during the Triqui march in Mexico
* ask friends in Mexico to ask the authorities to assure the safety of the
caravan
* arrange something in your home town to make people aware of the situation,
and force
the Mexican authorities to act against the impunity and the injustice
* demand justice for Bety and Jyri and for the others murdered
