HIP HOP ECOLOGIES AND POLITICS SYMPOSIUM
Janus, Sirkkala, Kaivokatu 12, University of Turku
Thu Oct 5, 10:30-17:00
Fri Oct 6, 10:15-16:30

Key note speaker: Jeff Chang (Stanford University).

See attached program for details. Registration not required.

Throughout its history, hip hop has created spaces for engaging with social and political issues, and offered resources for creating, re-shaping, and performing local and global identities. This symposium will critically examine hip hop in its political, historical, geographic, cultural, ideological, and musical ecologies. The symposium will develop comparative analyses between Finland, the Nordic region, and the wider world, and build dialogue with international scholars.

The symposium is organized jointly by the Musicology department, the Hiphop in Finland: Genres and Generations research network, and the IIPC.
