Tää levy, ranskalaisia anarkistisia lauluja 1870-1910. Jos vaihtaa muutama avainsanaa, nii ne biisit ois kyllä voinut olla kirjoitettu eilen...

Politic in the late nineteenth century was violent. Various socialist groups, scattered, were arguing with eatch others, the most visible Workers' Opposition was led by anarchists, who animated the unions and were hostile to parties and parliamentarism . The songs on this record give us an idea of their positions.
What strikes when listening them is their violence: against the army, against the church, against the bosses, against the elections (although one of them called instead to vote "against the clerical"), . They advocate violence: "May the blood flow and redden the ground" "He killed the policemen without a tear" "If you want to be happy, hang your landlord and cut the priests in two parts" "May the nitro and the dynamite be there for us"
A recurring theme: the uselessness, the harmfulness of all institutions, the government, of course "To be really happy we need no more government", but also the church, the army, the country and the homeland ''which are for us, a total nonsense, a feeling of cowardice"
The overall tone is rather optimistic: ''let's revolt and anarchy will triumph'' But there is also a dark vision of modern life: "everyone is free to be silent, or to die" ''Take back the factory,  be no longer the servant of the Capital, take back the tool and the machine, everything belongs to everyone, without exploiters, follow the laws of Nature and produce only by necessity, easy work or very hard task have values, only in their usefulness''
Songs like that seem unthinkable today, obviously because anarchism is not as present in actual politic as then, but mainly because of their violence (some would probably be prosecuted for incitement to murder) and because polical subjects are no more so present in music. The two main recent french singers who can be described as anarchists, Georges Brassens and Léo Ferré, if they have much more talent than the authors of these songs, only express a libertarian sensibility disconnected from the actual political life. But the equivalent expressed revolt may be found in rap. However, unlike the anarchist songs, they do not express a movement that manifests itself also, and above all, politically or through social struggles. The rap expresses sensitivity, shared, but without organization. It is no more about changing society, but about express revolt, a aimless revolt, without true ideal, perhaps totally hopeless. Times have changed ...
